For the interested viewer it is easy enough to find the full BBC telecast of the 1966 World Cup final with its famous commentary by Kenneth Wolstenholme online. So the chief attraction of "Goal!" is likely to be the fuller context it provides and color film of the same game. But it's also worthwhile for Brian Glanville's always dry and sometimes savage voiceover. At one point, discussing a bit of flair from Ecuador in the opening match, he points out how rare such action had become: "This is 1966...the football of negativity. The world cup has begun with the epitome of the modern game, a goalless draw." Ouch!
